Job Summary: This role is responsible to work with all departments on the development of new products including all quality aspects of PPAP, prototypes, and on-going product development

Required Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary Education (college or undergrad degree) in one of the following:
    • Engineering
    • Manufacturing
    • Quality
    • Professional Engineer Certification (PEO)
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a similar role with quality engineering experience on new program launches
  • Prior experience with ISO/IATF 16949 processes
  • Basic knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning, Production Part Approval Process submissions, Geometrical Dimensions and Tolerance, Flow Diagrams, PFMEAs, Control Plans, Statistics, and fixture development based on part GD&T
  • Basic knowledge of root cause analysis using various problem solving techniques
  • Basic understanding and use of statistical process control (SPC)
  • Basic knowledge of measuring equipment (i.e., verniers, micrometer, height gauges, etc.)
  • Strong communicator in the English language, both oral and written
  • Computer proficiency (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • High levels of time management with ability to meet deadlines and multiple demands
  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate cross-functional team meetings
  • Demonstrates the ability to work efficiently in a team environment
  • Ability to work overtime to meet customer needs

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for trouble shooting root cause analysis, SPC data analysis, implementation and maintain up to date documentations related to APQP documentation
  • Participate and coordinate the Team Oriented Problem Solving (corrective and preventive actions)
  • Participate and coordinate Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
  • Review and make recommendations for the disposition of non-conforming/suspect products in a timely manner and ensure formal corrective actions are answered within customers guidelines
  • Contribute and participate in the Quality System and the Environmental System to meet customer requirements and the international standards 
  • Works on the implementation of new procedures and processes in prototype stages of product launches to comply with the customer specifications
  • Works on preparing and implementation of new programs fixture builds, design reviews, timing and quality to meet customer and Martinrea standards
  • Helps with the development of PFMEAs
  • Develops appropriate key dimensional controls points on the new programs in conjunction with the program manager and customer
  • Maintains the Control Plan documentation and process instructions
  • Works on the preparedness of PPAP submissions for new products and engineering changes to meet customer deadlines and specific customer requirements (MRDs and Runa @ Rate)
  • Works as part of the team on problem solving efforts relating to launch quality issues and production of products
  • Conduct capability studies and gauge R&R analysis
  • Contribute and assist in variability reduction, process improvement and continuous improvement activities
  • Create quality documents in compliance with the company's quality system manual and quality system standards
  • Make recommendations for the disposition of non-conforming/suspect products in a timely manner and ensure formal corrective actions are answered within customer's guidelines
  • Contribute and participate in the Quality System and the Environmental System to meet customer requirements and the international standards
  • Assist with the needs of the customer in internal functions in addressing quality system requirements
  • Ensure time management is executed in the completion of all projects/duties
  • Abide by all company policies including, but not limited to the following: health and safety, quality and environmental systems, human resources policies, and Martinrea Employee Handbook
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation including Environmental Legislation, O. Reg 851 for Industrial Establishments, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (with emphasis on Section 28, (1) (a)-(d), (2) (a)-(c))

Work Environment:

  • 50% office, 50% plant floor (PPE required)
  • Travel required; able to travel regularly to client facilities, local and in the US or Mexico

Decision Making and Authority:

  • Decision Making:
    • Disposition of suspect parts
    • Stop unsafe or non-conforming product from further processing
    • Establish priorities when faced with multiple projects
  • On a functional basis this role has the following reporting relationships:
    • Reports to the Quality Manager
  • Recommendations:
    • Manufacturing process improvements and robustness
    • Safety and efficiency
  • Quantitative Measurable:
    • Oversee multiple parts or projects
    • Implementation of corrective actions within due dates

Physical Demands:

  • Constant communication with employees, peers, and management
  • Overtime as required

Health and Safety:

  • Must work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, Company and plant rules, policies, and procedures
  • Must use or wear personal protective equipment and certain clothing as required by the company
