Job Summary:  Project leader in the program Management and APQP process. Provide ongoing Engineering support to production

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Post Secondary Education (Community College or Undergrad Degree) in the one of the following:
    • Engineering
    • Manufacturing (Tooling)
  • 5-8 years experience in manufacturing/ tooling; 3 management experience; P.Eng designation is preferred
  • Strong communicator in the English language, both written and oral
  • Excellent organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • High level of time management
  • Familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations
  • Strong leadership skills, excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Extensive knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, Catia, UG)
  • Knowledge of customer specific requirements, core tools and IATF16949 management system
  • Knowledge of ISO14001 & ISO45001 preferred

 

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for directing the following positions: Program Managers, Industrial Engineers, Process Engineers, Coordinators, Automation and Weld Specialist and Weld Technicians. Ensure the appropriate training, coaching and discipline is given to ensure high performance of tasks to meet scheduled requirements
  • Responsible for the management of the following engineering functions:
    • Product design, prototyping, project management, packaging, design control, process control, manufacturing capabilities, quoting, value analysis/ value engineering and documentation control
    • Coordinate activities with outside Customers/ Suppliers
    • Monitor the effectiveness of the QSP systems
    • Asses capital requirements and prepare expenditure lists with justification documentation
    • Develop and maintain CAD customer interface and system management
    • Prepare and present customer technical presentations
    • Deals directly with customer on major engineering issues
    • Monitor APQP, PPAP, prototype and tooling build timelines and compliance to customer requirements
    • Oversee the Continuous Improvement program; provide input and ensure completion of CI projects
  • Achieve goals and objectives that are set out each year by the Assistant General Manager
  • Monitor and liaison with the Tool Room, Maintenance, Quality and Production departments
  • Provides assistance to Martinrea's plants for engineering and quality issues
  • Abide by all Company polices including, but not limited to the following: Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human Resources policies, and the Martinrea Employee Handbook

 

Work Environment:

  • 60% Office environment, 40% Plant floor (PPE required)

  • Authority of decisions:
    • Engineering processes
    • Quality stop production when Quality is in question
    • Implementation of projects
    • Delegation of projects amongst departments
    • Performance Management; progressive discipline and performance appraisals

  • Reporting relationships:
    • Directly oversee the following areas: approximately 20 employees
  • Quantitative Measurements:
    • Oversee approximately 20 people
    • Successful and timely launch of projects
    • Increase on throughput or cost reductions based on process improvements

 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 35lbs.
  • Must be able to work with push pull forces of up to 50lbs. or less

 

Health and Safety:

  • Must work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, Company and plant rules, policies and procedures
  • Must use or wear Personal Protective Equipment and certain clothing as required by the Company
