Job Summary:  This key position provides company-wide communications to 15,000+ employees, its business partners, government agencies, key stakeholders and the community.  This position will serve as the primary contact for employee and executive communications, public and media relations, and market intelligence and promotions. This position will also provide counsel to leadership in the area of corporate image and reputation and it will assist business units to develop and implement strategic communication plans to help move the company forward. This position is expected to successfully balance strategic and tactical execution and display the judgment, professionalism, work ethic, creativity and commitment to generate results.


Knowledge and Skills (Education):

  • 5+ years of related experience, particularly in analyzing and communicating complex situations in a large organization.
  • Experience in the automotive industry a plus, including knowledge of key media contacts and government representatives.
  • College degree in Communications, Public Relations or related field of study.
  • Experience developing a strategy, gaining agreement and leading the implementation.
  • Experience in crises management and providing leadership and direction to develop fast, effective techniques to mitigate risks.
  • Strong English language communicator with excellent writing and presentation skills and ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents.
  • Technologically savvy, particularly in social media and other communications tools, and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong work ethic, high level of integrity and ethical standards.
  • Organized, high energy individual capable of working in a fast paced and fluid environment.
  • Understanding of when to operate with urgency and/or escalate matters.
  • Availability to work unpredictable hours and travel as necessary.
  • Multi-lingual skills an asset: Spanish, German, Chinese, Portuguese, and Slovak.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and implement strategic communications plans with measurable goals and objectives that tie into the Company's overall business plan.
  • Create and manage proactive communications programs for employees, products, innovations and business matters of reputational importance including messaging and strategies related to reputational issues that could positively or adversely impact the Company.
  • Responsible for employee communications including newsletters, corporate bulletins and development and distribution of news and information.
  • Responsible for all crisis communications plans and day to day management of potentially escalating image and reputation issues.
  • Represent the Company to the public by acting as a public spokesperson. Identify challenges and emerging issues and develop strategies to manage media presence and public image.
  • Field and direct responses to all media-related inquiries.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with local, national, international, trade and social media.
  • Clearly communicate with leadership on key issues of importance to ensure consistency of message across the organization.
  • Research, write and edit various corporate materials, including press releases, statements, executive speeches, correspondence, memos, letters and presentations.
  • Develop contacts and relationships with industry and trade associations to create opportunities for keeping Martinrea and its products or services in front of customers and the automotive industry.
  • Development and management of product displays and tech show materials to promote awareness of the company and its products.
  • Work with Business Unit leaders to implement employee engagement initiatives, including identifying and implementing communication opportunities to connect leadership with employees, and developing key messages and communication materials for all employees.
  • Work collaboratively with field teams to surface and identify key stories, initiatives and strategies for sharing with the broader employee base.
  • Oversee and manage departmental budge and resources.


 Decision Making and Authority:

  • Develop and implement a community relations strategy utilizing various tools, including media relations, digital communications, and philanthropy and employee engagement.
  • Conduct analysis, prepare reports and develop specific recommendations for influencing and promoting Martinrea's manufacturing interests related to government policy.
  • Develop and implement regional communication and government relations strategies, facilitating interaction between senior staff and political / government contacts.
  • Take leadership in the development and delivery of the tools, systems and protocols to ensure internal communications are handled in a deliberate, disciplined and strategic manner.
  • Develop and implement global wide internal communication plans that engage, align and inspire employees with Martinrea's vision and business strategy.
  • Have responsibility to design and execute strategies that contribute to positive perceptions of the company with a particular focus on the positive role of automotive manufacturing in general and Martinrea in particular.
  • By collaborating with other businesses, nonprofit organizations, government agencies and educational institutions, ensure that Martinrea is well integrated in the community.


Working Conditions:

  • 75% office, 25% travel

  • Must use or wear equipment, protective devices or certain PPE clothing as required by the company.
