REPORTING TO:  General Manager/Assistant General Manager

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Provide leadership and direction to Operators and set up employees, ensuring that safety, production, quality and quantity standards are maintained.
  • To train, develop, direct and assist in the discipline of employees so that the business unit has a productive and efficient workforce to meet scheduled requirements in a safe environment.

 

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS REQUIRED:

Education:            Minimum of Grade 12 / or 1-3 years of related experience in a manufacturing environment

 

Skills                     Good verbal and written communications skills.

                             Strong organizational and leadership skills.

                             Familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations

                             Knowledge of automotive industry processes and operations

                             Knowledge of Customer Specific Requirements

 

Experience            1-3 years related experience in an automotive field.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES :

POSITION DUTIES:

Effectively motivate and direct subordinates by:

  • Observing and recognizing the best qualities of the employees and expanding upon them.
  • Listening to employee's problems and/or concerns when they arise and to seek a prompt and mutually acceptable resolution. Immediately advise Supervisor and/or Human Resources Manager on unresolved concerns.
  • Conducts Supervisor review and disciplinary processes.
  • Mentor and guide the team unit when needed.
  • Provide hands-on leadership
  • Ensure that the production area of responsibility is producing a good quality part at appropriate rates.
  • Analyze scrap data to identify and correct manufacturing problems.
  • Ensure production area meets or exceeds labor standards.
  • Ensure the attainment of daily production schedules
  • Maintain production related records.
  • Provide continuous improvement ideas and to conduct Continuous Improvement projects.
  • Oversee and ensure employees are provided with training on all aspects of the job.
  • Communicate and ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Initiate corrective actions to the Managers and follow up on recommendations for correcting manufacturing defects.
  • Responsible for ensuring all training within department are completed in a timely manner and documented
  • Ensure that all machine/equipment are fully manned when scheduled.
  • Ensures housekeeping inspections are conducted and makes sure that all areas are tidy and organized
  • Assists in the production planning process
  • Ensures plant security
  • May be required to transfer to other shifts due to production needs
  • Any other duties as required

 

SUPERVISION:

SAFETY:

Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Supervisors or Team Leaders are responsible to ensure that:

 

  1. Employees work in the manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by the OHSA and regulations (e.g. fall-arrest systems, confining hair, jewellery or loose clothing around moving machine parts, etc.)
  2. Employees use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that Caledon Tubing requires be using or wearing.
  3. Employees are advised of the existence of any potential or actual danger to the health or safety of which the supervisor is aware.
  4. Employees are provided with written instructions as to the measures and procedures to be taken for their protection.
  5. Every precaution reasonable in the circumstances is taken for the protection of an employee.

 

Other responsibilities include:

  • Develop and demonstrate a positive "health and safety" attitude and working climate.
  • Be interested in and involved with the organization's health and safety performance.
  • Uphold safety rules and procedures and support enforcement including disciplinary action.
  • Develop a working relationship with JHSC members/ health and safety representative and support their role.
  • Make every reasonable attempt to resolve the health and safety concern of employees.
  • Ensure training of employees in safe work practices and job safety requirements associated with a particular job process and provide written instructions where appropriate.
  • Correct unsafe acts and unsafe conditions.
  • Report and investigate all incidents and injuries to employees and guests and any property damage or loss of process.
  • Ensure that a maintenance program for any equipment and machinery in the workplace is carried out.
  • Implement emergency plans when necessary and ensure that employees have been properly trained to comply.
  • Inform superiors of any known occupational health and safety concerns.
  • Regularly evaluate employee performance and provide periodic feedback with respect to health and safety.
