Job Summary: Completes initial part inspection and period part inspections for all manufacturing processes with a strong focus on overall scrap reduction

Required Education and Experience:

  • College courses in Quality related discipline
  • Certified Quality Technician (CQT) or equivalent preferred
  • Strong communicator in the English language
  • Minimum 3-4 years of experience in a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of technical specialties and process requirements

Essential Functions:

  • Approve/verify first off/last off inspections and approve samples before full production run, using variable and attribute gauging
  • Review parts from assembly process. Identify defects, chart inspection results, and report out findings
  • Perform CMS reconciliation if required (i.e mark parts and check production parts throughout shift)
  • Perform product validation after re-work process to ensure part conformity with the customer's engineering specifications
  • Effectively utilize measurement tools such as vernier, micrometer, and height gauge fixtures when conducting inspections
  • Responsible to maintain the integrity and cleanliness of the quality gauges on the shop floor and quality lab
  • Perform sorting/containment activities as required
  • Perform part validation/testing (destructive or non-destructive) as required
  • Participate and provide inputs to the continuous improvement program to enhance the quality of the products or processes and to the quality department to improve inspection techniques, and the boundary sample process
  • Effectively communicate with operators (and other quality personnel) to meet and maintain quality standards, including re-training operators as required
  • Abide by all company policies including, but not limited to the following: health and safety, quality and environmental systems, human resources policies, and Martinrea Employee Handbook
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation including Environmental Legislation, O. Reg 851 for Industrial Establishments, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (with emphasis on Section 28, (1) (a)-(d), (2) (a)-(c))

Work Environment:

  • 100% work indoor on the plant floor (PPE required)

Decision Making and Authority:

  • Decision Making:
    • Part quality (OK to run)
    • Priority with production interest
  • On a functional basis this role has the following reporting relationships:
    • Reports to the Quality Manager and indirectly to Quality Engineers
  • Recommendations:
    • Training and efficiencies

Physical Demands:

  • Job requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to lift up to 35lbs
  • Must be able to work with push/pull force of up to 50lbs or less

Health and Safety:

  • Must work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, Company and plant rules, policies, and procedures
  • Must use or wear personal protective equipment and certain clothing as required by the company
