Job Summary: to utilize your technical welding skills and interpersonal skills to support and improve the current and new Welding Processes used within the Hydroform Solutions and Coatings facilities.

Required Education and Experience:

  • University degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology and/or 3 - 5 years of automated welding processes and tooling experience (in an automotive environment is preferred)
  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Advanced MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook) knowledge
  • Knowledge in CAD : 3D Models, Drawings and GD&Ts an asset
  • Excellent attendance
  • Ability to work efficiently with minimum supervision and directions
  • Ability to work in a team environment, interacting with Project Management Team and be a team player
  • Ability to maintain all engineering related records in an organized and tidy manner
  • Support Quality Systems, Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems Requirements
  • Ability to work well under pressure and able to utilize problem solving techniques effectively
  • Respecting and understanding customer / supplier relationship
  • Ensure that all duties and tasks are carried out in a safe and efficient manner and at no time is the employee or the co-workers placed in an unsafe condition

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to work independently and draw from experience in all aspect of the job assigned
  • Work closely with Project Management Team to support new product launches, engineering changes implementation and product / process continuous improvement initiatives and related activities.
  • Participate in APQP meetings being responsible to provide welding process related deliverables
  • Understand the various methods of welding and the standards associated with each type, MIG, TIG, Resistance, Projection/Spot etc.
  • Understand Industry standards and customer specific requirements
  • Understand welding parameters and materials (wire) and adjustments required to provide solutions to common technical issues
  • Maintain CQI-15 standard
  • Understand the equipment used to perform the various types of welding
  • Understand and be able to review Robotic welding programs as supplied by Equipment/Integrator Suppliers for new equipment launches. Provide direction to Internal resources for the enhancement of current Robotic welding programs, speed, angle, position, pattern and power.
  • CWI designation or in process of obtaining CWI status.
  • Participate in tooling design reviews to optimize welding processes.
  • Provide direction in Destructive and Non Destructive Weld testing.
  • Responsible to provide estimates on tooling, special purpose gauges/ fixtures, cycle times and capital
  • Responsible for manufacturing processes, equipment, fixtures and tooling design and development
  • Responsible to define and implement error proofing
  • Tooling and equipment sourcing, development, progress tracking and validation as required
  • Trouble shoot process/equipment related issues and fine tune process to eliminate process-induced defects
  • Responsible to initiate and update as appropriate Process Flow Charts and PFMEAs
  • Responsible to initiate and maintain Standardized Job / Operator Instructions, Set-up Instructions and Re-work Instructions as needed
  • Assess and improve ergonomics
  • Conduct time studies, identify capacity constraints and opportunities to improve efficiencies and to reduce manufacturing costs
  • Ensure manufacturing and assembly processes comply with health, safety and environmental legislation, practices and procedures
  • Responsible to protect own health and safety by working in compliance with established safe work practices and procedures
  • Initiate cost reductions ideas and/or quality improvement measures. Supports the QA department when required with customer concerns and corrective actions.
  • Support Preventative Maintenance Program development for all manufacturing process equipment

Working Environment:

  • Both office setting and production environment
  • 40% office, 60% plant floor (PPE required)
  • Flexible hours as required

Physical Demands:

  • Require communication with employees, peers and management
  • Lifting and pushing as needed
  • Ability to work on computer for long periods of time

  • Must work in accordance with health and safety regulations, company rules, plant rules, policies and procedures
  • Must use or wear equipment, protective devices or certain clothing as required by the company.
  • All employees are prohibited from walking under a suspended hoist, cranes or forklifts.
