1.       JOB SUMMARY

 The Maintenance Technician is responsible for but not limited to performing general maintenance and repair on machines, equipment, and facility systems.

 2.       JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

An employee in this position may generally expect to perform any or all of the following duties, which may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.

  • Determines nature and cause of machine malfunction
  • Removes, replaces or adjusts parts, and tests machine to verify effectiveness of repairs
  • Returns repaired machines to service
  • Performs preventive maintenance on machines and  equipment
  • Upgrades or installs machine guards and controls
  • Lubricates and paints machines and equipment
  • Sets up and operates lathe, grinder, welding equipment, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  • Installs and repairs plumbing, ventilation and electrical systems
  • Performs other general maintenance
  • Performs general building maintenance
  • Documents completion of work orders and notifies requesters of job completion.
  • Requisitions or initiates purchase orders for repair materials, machine components and parts

 3.       QUALIFICATIONS

Upon appointment, an employee in this position should possess the qualifications noted.  If other qualifying factors are present, the minimum experience requirement may be modified or waived at entry level to the job.  Additional training may be provided to enhance job-specific knowledge and to further develop skills and abilities.

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three to five years experience related to defined job responsibilities or equivalent training.
  •  Job-related technical training or equivalent
  • Safety (e.g. Lock Out/Tag Out)
