Job Summary: Be an integral part of a technical and operations team that is responsible for the overall output of your assigned equipment, which builds the underbody automotive structure. You will be in charge of improving technical and operation processes not limited to; cycle time, efficiency, and quality improvements by introducing new methods or technologies; SCADA, database, microprocessors implementation for operational improvements; and building your own team of operators that will engage with you on daily production and special projects.

 

Knowledge and Skills (Education):

  • Must be able to read and write in English
  • Post-Secondary Education:
    • Electro-Mechanical Technician Diploma preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to train
  • 5-7 years experience in similar environment, experience in leading a team
  • Ability to work independently and draw from experience with minimal supervision
  • Ability to problem solve where issues vary considerably
  • Strong knowledge of production requirements, health & safety and quality standards
  • Knowledge of technical specialties and capable of working with moderately complex procedures; electrical trouble shooting of low voltage (120 V), spot and MIG welding, PLC programming (Allen Bradley processors required, OMRON an asset)

 

Major Accountabilities:

  • Assist the Process Engineer/Area Leader to assign/delegate tasks to Operators
  • Directly supervise work of production team members in assigned area
  • Assist the Process Engineer/Area Leader to ensure that all appropriate documentation is being completed correctly; Quality alerts, Inspections sheets, Production reports, product identification, traceability, Operator Instructions, packaging instructions etc.
  • Schedule cleaning for cells and assign activities to ensure they are being completed
  • Responsible to meet with Group Leader and Process Engineer/Area Leader to discuss Continuous Improvement for the department; implement Continuous Improvement plans in the department with the Process Engineers and operators
  • Monitor production output of operators, inform Process Engineer/Area Leader of any potential problems related to equipment and processes to minimize unnecessary downtime.
  • Ensure that all equipment and tools are maintained properly so there is no interruption of production and to minimize unnecessary downtime
  • Analyze machine downtime to identify and provide resolutions on all mechanical problems as required
  • Minimize costs of operating through proper planning and efficient use of all available resources
  • Hold daily information meetings and weekly safety meetings
  • Responsible for lineside board and participate in team board meetings
  • Aid associates in the development of their ideas and suggestions
  • Utilize available metrics to manage work flow
  • Enhance 5S program for responsible work area
  • Learn and assist in developing team members in all TPS principles
  • Reassign team members when needed and manage rotation of team members
  • Review all scheduling needs daily
  • Ensure that all first off/last off procedures are being followed at all times, notify the Process Engineer/Area Leader of any infractions
  • Ensure good housekeeping is maintained at all times; communicate related issues to other shifts and Process Engineer/ Area leader
  • Trouble shoot equipment consisting of weld controllers, robotics and programmable logic controllers
  • Changeover or assist with changeover of equipment, equipment components or tooling to run different jobs
  • Modify robot, PLC programs, and machine screen interfaces (HMI's) as required
  • Preventative maintenance and repairs as required
  • Ensure machines produce quality parts by maintaining equipment and tooling adjustments
  • Change welding consumables such as electrodes, caps and MIG weld tips and nozzles as needed
  • Ensure robot and PLC programs are modified in a manner that maintains or improves part quality
  • Trouble shoot and repair equipment components which cause down time in a timely fashion
  • Adjust MIG and spot welding schedules on Medar, Lincoln, Miller and Panasonic weld controllers
  • Learn new technologies and suggest methodology to apply in your own cells
  • Improve operational processes by implementing automated solutions directly from machine to database
  • Ensure the safe operation of all equipment by your direct reports and oneself; abide by safety training and regulations.
  • Abide by all company polices including, but not limited to the following; Health and safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human resources policies, and Martinrea Employee Handbook
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation including Environmental Legislation, O. Reg 851 for Industrial Establishments, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (with emphasis on Section 28, (1) (a)-(d), (2) (a)-(c)).

 

Working Conditions:

  • 99% plant floor (PPE required) 1% office environment
  • Frequent need to give concentrated attention to surroundings
  • Frequent requirement of handling heavy equipment (operation)

    • Responsible for assisting in overseeing department of approximately 30 personnel
    • 40 automated cells and stations
    • 30/ 40 calls per day
