Job Summary:

The role is to work on process design and improvement for manufacturing to increase productivity and improve manufacturing flow. Leading and mentoring Technicians utilizing them on OPEX projects, daily productivity and quality targets.

 

Knowledge and Skills (Education):

  • Post-Secondary Education (Community College or Undergrad Degree) in the one of the following:
    • Engineering
    • Manufacturing
  • P.Eng. designation is a plus or "in pursuit of" through E.I.T. however not a requirement
  • 5 7 years' experience in similar role
  • Ability to work independently, and draw from experience
  • Knowledge of technical specialties, capable of working with moderately complex procedures
    • Technical specialties in Robot MIG, Spot, Sealant, Drawn arc, projection welding, sheet metal modular welded assembly
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Powerpoint)
  • Extensive knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, Catia, UG)

 

Major Accountabilities:

  • Assess and implement continuous improvement projects in relation to current or future project planning.
  • Improves efficiency of process through; cycle time analysis and time studies.
  • Launch new or engineering change of Process equipment.
  • Analyze data and identify root causes of defects. Provide corrective actions in order to improve a particular process or product yield.
  • Lead Fast Response corrective actions as needed and, assist in Line side board activities.
  • Oversee ergonomics of the plant and guide Ergonomics team to make improvements to work centres.
  • Make improvements to the production process by using data driven Root-Cause Analysis, and Poka-Yoke, 5S and Lean methodologies to improve the quality of products, reduce scrap, and eliminate waste.
  • Assist in developing P.F.M.E.A. / F.M.E.A. / P.C.P / and P.F.D's.
  • Update program documentation, write weekly reports, work instructions and procedure manuals as required.
  • Update and maintain plant layout.
  • Develop manufacturing methods, labour utilization standards, and cost analysis systems to promote efficient staff and facility utilization.
  • Develop quotation of assembly equipment (welding and assembly) to give to estimators or program managers.
  • Lead Technicians in OPEX projects, daily production and Quality targets.
  • Assess Technicians of their training needs, career development and performance appraisals.
  • Assist in ensuring technician coverage for production.
  • Ensure and establish a network of outside expertise and supply base that can resolve, or act as a backup for responsible processes and equipment.
  • Abide by all company polices including, but not limited to the following; Health and safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human resources policies, and Martinrea Employee Handbook.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation including Environmental Legislation, O. Reg 851 for Industrial Establishments, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (with emphasis on Section 28, (1) (a)-(d), (2) (a)-(c)).

 

Working Conditions:

  • 40% Office environment, 60% Plant floor (PPE required)

    • Provides on the job training for technical tasks (tip change, red herring, etc.)
    • Assist Technicians in creation and implementation of innovative ideas to improve cell
  • Works with Area Leader to supervise Technicians:
    • Scheduling of Technicians
    • Adherence and improvements to Production system
  • Quantitative Measurements:
    • Assists in implementation of OPEX and/or quotation of processes to win jobsBack-up Duties:
