Job Summary: Tooling coordinator will be responsible to follow up on the manufacturing of new tools, coordinate the implementation of engineering changes and analyze and correlate information from different sources to propose and execute dimensional process improvements.

Knowledge and Skills (Education):

  • Post Secondary Education (Community College or Undergrad Degree) in the one of the following:
  • Engineering
  • Manufacturing (Tooling)
  • Certified tool and die licence
  • 10 years experience in manufacturing/ tooling
  • Strong communicator in the English language, both written and verbal
  • Very Knowledgeable in the stamping and assembly processes
  • Experience in SPC to drive change
  • Tool and design experience
  • High strength and ultrahigh strength steel experience
  • Simulations experience
  • Excellent organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Strong time management skills
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Powerpoint)
  • Extensive knowledge of CAD software an asset (AutoCAD, Solidworks, Catia, UG)

Major Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for follow up on new tools during product/process launches and tooling buy offs from stamping and assembly, which includes the following:
  • Purchase and oversee launching of new tools for stamping processes taking the tooling from initial concept through design through all stages in outside vendors, returning tooling into the facility and follow through to buy off stage
  • Propose tooling improvements, and coordinate these activities with the tool room. Techs
  • Drive improvement change to tooling processes
  • Quote tooling for possible new business, product feasibility reviews, blank layout and material utilization prior to returning quote to customer. Provide support to Engineering team by providing estimation information of tooling costs
  • Knowledgeable in Quoting pricing
  • Formulating blank sizes from part CAD
  • Formulating strip process from part CAD
  • Resurfacing data after troublesome dies
  • Analysis of Process parameter, press timing charts, and transfer timing charts to optimize strokes per minute on dies.
  • Maintain press specs and die standards
  • Tool shop follow up
  • In charge of and maintain Tooling tracker
  • Ensure vendor optimizing blank sizes
  • Troubleshooting dies issues at vendor and at Alfield
  • Champion and Coordinate and tooling improvement plans
  • Propose strategy to resolve scanning results
  • Source all work required by customers at outside vendors for engineering changes
  • Participate in APQP process in current and upcoming programs,
  • Abide by all company polices including, but not limited to the following; Health and safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human resources policies, and Martinrea Employee Handbook
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation including Environmental Legislation, O. Reg 851 for Industrial Establishments, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (with emphasis on Section 28, (1) (a)-(d), (2) (a)-(c)).

Working Conditions:

  • 20% Office environment, 80% Plant floor (PPE required)
