Job Summary:


Supports the build of various experimental, prototype, and short run manufacturing activities.  Sets up and operates equipment including, but no limited to, CNC benders, end forming machines, welding and brazing equipment, and other metalworking machines and fixtures to fabricate metal tubing components and assemblies.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.  Job-related technical training or equivalent
  • Journeyman Toolmaker or equivalent
  • Computer literate
  • CMM-CNC ability
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience or training related to defined job responsibilities
  • Requires the ability to lead a team in effort to accomplish set goals
  • Requires a basic knowledge of manufacturing procedures and techniques, and familiarity with quality and safety concepts and procedures and engineering documentation
  • Requires the ability to operate production and testing equipment and hand tools according to instructions
  • Requires the ability to communicate verbally to receive and acknowledge basic job instructions in English
  • The ability to read and write or complete simple instructions, forms and memos in English
  • Requires the ability to understand and carry out instructions, and the ability to participate in and contribute to a team effort or project
  • Training normally received following appointment may include departmental policies, procedures and practices, specific manufacturing or assembly procedures and the use of manufacturing equipment and hand tools, safety rules, and practices, blueprint reading, use of quality and inspection tools, including calipers, micrometers, and gauges.



Critical Success Factors:

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
  • Measures, marks, and scribed dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent processing, MIG or TIG welding, brazing, or assembly
  • Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machine such as grinders, benders, end formers, crimpers, connector machines, and other manufacturing machines
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications
  • Produces parts in amounts needed to meet build requirements, completes production and quality assurance documentation, packages completed units, and prepares packages for shipment to customers and manufacturing plants
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, designers, or others to resolve design or manufacturing problems
  • Setup production lines for running prototype and PPAP sample parts
  • Document setup parameters used to successfully produce these samples
  • Develop and maintain a working relationship with engineers, toolmakers, and production personnel
  • Work with engineers on development, build, and trout of new tooling and equipment
  • Be responsible to identify and propose actions to improve current work practices, and participate in implementing improvements when applicable
  • Accomplish special projects as directed by the Engineering Coordinator
  • Rotates between different work stations or job assignments
  • Maintains good housekeeping in work area


Working Conditions

  • Predominantly in a factory setting
  • Involves handling or working near industrial chemicals or vapors such as solvents, cleaning agents and flammable liquids
  • Involves operating or working near moving mechanical equipment
  • May encounter moderate to loud noise levels created by power tools, production machinery and heavy traffic


Effort/Physical Demands

  • Adequate vision acuity
  • Frequent long hours/weekends possible
  • May be required to stand for up to 10 hours during a work shift
  • Stoop or crouch to adjust equipment or retrieve parts
  • Reach overhead or forward to retrieve parts or hand tools
  • Lift materials or objects of up to 25 pounds frequently and 40 pounds occasionally
  • Manipulate small parts, operate machine controls with hands or fingers
  • Perform repetitive operations with hands and fingers
  • Maintain concentration and attention to detail

  • Must use or wear equipment, protective devices or certain clothing as required by the company
