Job Summary:

  • Oversee and coordinate North Vernon Division's workers compensations program, FMLA Leave, Short Term Disability and Safety Programs.  Implement Wellness programs for the purpose of educating employees in health lifestyle choices.  Prepare and conduct related training programs.

    Required Minimum Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.  Job-related technical training or equivalent
    • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience or training related to defined job responsibilities

    • The ability to understand and carry out simple instructions, and the ability to participate in and contribute to a team effort or project on an occasional basis





    • Coordinate, maintain and audit the Company's Health and Safety Program on an ongoing basis to ensure standards are at a minimum being met if not exceeded
    • Engage in a proactive approach to evaluate current Health and Safety practices, recommend, implement, and monitor improvements to the Health and Safety program resulting in reduced workplace injuries.
    • Track required Health and Safety training
    • Assist the HR Manager and Generalist on all workers compensation claims and return to work programs
    • Document, track, investigate and communicate all workplace accidents and trends by reviewing accident reports to identify patterns of injury to determine unsafe practices, unsafe conditions, or improper physical techniques as contributors. Make recommendations in reducing accidents and injuries.
    • Track, identify and communicate new trends in our workplace as well as corporate and legislative. Provide advice and guidance on all matters relating to occupational health and safety.
    • Recommend, coordinate, and conduct related safety training programs including developing training plans, designing training materials, facilitating and coordinating/conducting the training sessions
    • Overseeing, coordinating the Safety Committee activities.
    • Assist other employees with the Environmental Program as it pertains to training and compliance.



    • Educate and counsel employees and train managers/supervisors as to HR policies and practices as related to paid and unpaid leaves of absence, FMLA, short term disability, workers' compensation.
    • Assist HR Manager and Generalist with the administration and tracking of employee leave programs including leave of absence, Short Term Disability, and FMLA leave programs and workers compensation.
    • Maintain up to date working knowledge of all safety and health programs. Attend professional development as needed.
    • Coordinate all restricted and/or light duty workers comp assignments with supervisors and medical advisors.


    • Assist the HR Manager in the design of the company's wellness program with the purpose of achieving and maintaining a healthy workforce. Develop goals and measures.
    • Implement wellness activities such as a health fair, screenings, etc....
    • Coordinate and schedule quarterly wellness committee meetings to determine the needs of the workforce
    • Assist in the development and maintaining of an employee communication related to safety, health and wellness
    • Educate employees on the benefits of our Corporations Employee Assistance Program as being a valuable resource
    • Implement training as determined by HR and the wellness and safety committees as to the needs of the workforce as it relates to their health, wellness and safety.

    Training Coordinator:

    • Work closely with the HR Manager on determining coaching and training needed at all levels of the organization
    • Help implement, coordinate and conduct training as well as maintain training records

    Additional but Secondary Responsibilities:

    • Work with HR Manager and HR Generalist on special events, deadlines and other HR related activities as needed.

    Working Conditions

    • Predominantly in a factory setting
    • Involves handling or working near industrial chemicals or vapors such as solvents, cleaning agents and flammable liquids
    • Involves operating or working near moving mechanical equipment
    • May encounter moderate to loud noise levels created by power tools, production machinery and heavy traffic


     Effort/Physical Demands

    • Adequate vision acuity
    • Frequent long hours/weekends possible
    • May be required to stand for up to 10 hours during a work shift
    • Stoop or crouch to adjust equipment or retrieve parts
    • Reach overhead or forward to retrieve parts or hand tools
    • Lift materials or objects of up to 25 pounds frequently and 40 pounds occasionally
    • Manipulate small parts, operate machine controls with hands or fingers
    • Perform repetitive operation with hands and fingers
    • Maintain concentration and attention to detail


    Health and Safety Responsibilities

    • Must work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, Company Rules, Plant Rules, policies and procedures
    • Must use or wear equipment, protective devices or certain clothing as required by the company
