Entry Level Payroll Administrator/Buyer

Reporting to: Controller


Job Summary:
To accurately maintain and update employee profiles, hours, payments, etc. on a daily basis for 250-400 employees. Also to maintain purchasing responsibilities on a daily basis.

Knowledge and Skills (Education):
• Community College Business/Payroll Administration preferred

• 0 - 3 years experience

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

• Strong multi-tasking abilities

• Exceptional attendance

• Willingness to learn

• High attention to detail

• Strong English written and verbal communication skills


Major Payroll Accountabilities:
• Maintain the payroll system for additions, changes or deletions to employee profiles of pay rates, bank accounts details, absentee codes, etc. and entry of miscellaneous items, ie, safety shoes, safety glasses

• Review and maintain payroll system settings and calculations

• Review the accuracy of payrolls returned from payroll; complete any records of employment (if applicable); and sort the payroll for distribution.

• Check absenteeism call-in-line for absentee information and report the information to Supervisors, Managers and the General Manager

• Maintain HR records for any additions, changes or deletions to employee profiles

• Maintain Manulife LTD benefit plan for any additions, changes or deletions to employee profiles

• Generate and distribute the following reports; overtime, pay period ending payroll summary, payroll changes, attendance and any required reports as requested

• Responsible for reconciling and completing monthly cheque request forms for the following: WSIB, RRSP, Garnishments, etc.

• Responsible for requesting payroll reports for the completion of CPP, EI, EHT and WSIB annual returns by Finance

• Update weekly forecast spreadsheet with weekly payroll data

• Abide by all company polices including, but not limited to the following; Health and safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human resources policies, and Martinrea Employee Handbook

• Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation including Environmental Legislation, O. Reg 851 for Industrial Establishments, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (with emphasis on Section 28, (1) (a)-(d), (2) (a)-(c)). •Perform other duties as required


Purchasing Accountabilities:

• obtain supplier quotes and present to requesting Manager

• Maintain/process purchase requisitions as requested by management team

• Obtain purchase order approvals

• Manage outstanding purchase orders


Working Conditions:
• 99% Office environment, 1% Plant Floor (PPE required)
