POSITION SUMMARY:      The Tooling Fabricator at MJ Manufacturing is primarily responsible for the facilitation of a safe and efficient department that meets the customer requirements in both output and quality. The  most critical function is to assure that those specifications set out by Engineering and the Customer are understood and adhered to by all members of the department.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Ensure products manufactured by the tooling department met production and quality goals
  • Assure a steady flow and process of work at MJ Manufacturing
  • Interface with Quality, Engineering, Payroll, Human Resources and Management
  • 1st off/1st article part production as well as Prototype production
  • Work in a manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedure required by the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the regulations.
  • Use/wear equipment, protective devices or clothing as required by the company
  • Perform daily workplace inspections
  • Follow prints, work/inspection procedures and/or work instructions
  • Uphold quality standards and perform inspection prior to completion of paperwork and/or labour entry
  • Determine and coordinate in-house and outsourced jobs as required for the department
  • Record and retain all tooling/fixture logs
  • Create and/or verify tooling designs provided by the engineering department
  • Ensure all paperwork and/or data entry is completed accurately and on time
  • Ensure all machines are operating at maximum efficiency and utilization
  • Ensure maximum efficiency from the work center
  • Ensure that material and/or product is delivered to the designated area prior to shift start
  • Report any damage to machines or tooling to supervisors and/or maintenance immediately
  • Ensure that all schedules and deadline are met
  • Continuously look for ways to improve production, quality and safe working conditions in the plant
  • Maintain proper housekeeping standard.
  • Follow good health & safety and work practices
  • All other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager 

 

COMPETENCIES (Job Knowledge/Skill, Education and related experience) 

  • 1-2 years previous supervisory experience
  • Must have knowledge of manufacturing processes (welding, machining, forming)
  • High level competency in CAD software (Solidworks)
  • Ability to read and interpret dimensional and weld prints
  • Ability to train, motivate, coach and counsel others
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, ability to interact with employees, and all levels of management
  • Must possess problem solving, conflict resolution and decision making skills
  • Excellent written/oral communication and excellent listening skills
  • Works well independently and in a team environment
  • Strong organizational skills, able to prioritize
  • Must possess the ability to provide and receive positive criticism
  • Must have the ability to take ownership and be accountable for the department
  • Ability to multi-task, excellent time management skills and detailed orientated
  • Must be creative and possess the ability to think outside the box
  • Ensure confidentiality of all employee information
