Knowledge and Skills:

  • College and/or university degree in mechanical field and/or minimum 5 years of tooling experience in the automotive industry
  • Tool & Die license would be an asset
  • Strong communicator in the English language, both written and oral
  • Proficient in Microsoft office
  • Excellent time management skill and has the ability to multiple tasks at a fast pace environment
  • Good knowledge of operating all tool room equipments
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerance skills
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) skills*

Major Accountabilities and responsibilities:

  • Responsible to manage new and existing tooling and spearhead tooling improvements that significantly improve first-time quality and eliminate chronic issues with problem tools
  • Resolve customer concerns with regards to tooling issues either attending in-house meeting and/or off site meeting with customers and suppliers. Occasional travelling is required to resolve tooling issues and for tooling buy off as required
  • Responsible for all aspects of tooling from various suppliers
  • Follow up on engineering changes as required
  • Involved in process of strip layout and die design reviews
  • Ensure tools fit and function as per customer specifications and requirement
  • Participate in process improvement measures (First Time through Initiatives) to reduce scrap and improve efficiency on all tools
  • Tooling improvements in general
  • Coordinate with various departments to resolve plant concerns with regards to tooling issues, make recommendation for improvement and permanent fix
  • Follow up with tool shops to correct stamping issues as required
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Manager
