Job Summary: Promote workplace safety by identifying and monitoring potential hazards to people or property. Ensure compliance, maintenance & Occupational Health & Safety Management System and applicable legal requirements.

Knowledge and Skills (Education):

  • Post Secondary Education (Bachelor's Degree) in Engineering
  • 5 years experience in manufacturing; P.Eng designation is preferred
  • Health and Safety Certification (Level 1 & Level 2) an asset
  • Strong communicator in the English language, both written and oral*
  • Sound knowledge of best practices in the industry* *
  • Exert leadership qualities (capable of directing managers if needed)*
  • Excellent organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Strong time management skills
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Powerpoint)
  • Ability to work independently and knowledge of best practices
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations

Major Accountabilities:

  • Ensure worker safety and hazard recognition as paramount importance
  • Complete risk assessment in compliance with CSA and other Safety Regulatory bodies
  • Lead safety programs to effectively and continuously improve safety culture
  • Plan, implement, and coordinate safety programs to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions by maintaining and applying knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes
  • Conduct audits, including closing out audit findings, creating audit finding reports and determining proper corrective and preventive actions. Provide feedback to Management
  • Review plans and specifications for new machinery and equipment to make sure they meet safety requirements
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance
  • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
  • Install safety devices on machinery or direct the installation of these devices
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of various industrial control mechanisms and assessment of failure potentials for each component
  • Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures
  • Lead the ESRTW Program in conjunction with H&S Coordinator
  • Plan and conduct industrial hygiene research
  • Managing communication with Corporate H&S Manager and Director of Human Resources
  • Liaison with H&S Coordinator to maintain and implement all elements of the Health and Safety program, including but not limited to policy creation/ maintenance, program role out, training and communications as per Workwell standards.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to Senior Management on how to handle health-related problems and make needed changes
  • Employee Advisor for Health and Safety issues and concerns. Assesses concerns and coordinate with various departments for completion. Follow up where necessary.

  • Abide by all company polices including, but not limited to the following; Health and safety, Human resources policies, and Martinrea Employee Handbook
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation including Environmental Legislation, O. Reg 851 for Industrial Establishments, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (with emphasis on Section 28, (1) (a)-(d), (2) (a)-(c))

Working Conditions:

  • 30% Office environment, 70% Plant floor (PPE required)

  • Injuries, Lost time, Employee motivation, WSIB (NEER)
