Job Summary:

The Tool Room Supervisor provides leadership and direction to the Press department in regards to meet or exceed customer requirements.  Establishing continuous improvement goals and improvement strategies and moving the organization to meeting or surpassing targets for success.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Tool and Die Certificate and minimum (5) years tool room experience in automotive OR
  • Community college and minimum (10) years jobbing shop experience in automotive
  • STRONG working knowledge of tool and die development.
  • STRONG working knowledge of progressive, transfer and tandem line dies.
  • Tool Room Supervisor will have previous experience in supervisory position.
  • Tool Room Supervisor will bring experience in developing low cost tooling solutions.
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Tool and Die Certificate and minimum (5) years tool room experience in automotive
  • Operate all Tool room equipment
  • Good understanding of ISO, SPC and QS systems

Competencies:

  • Ability to lead, manage and supervise skilled trade teams.
  • Working knowledge of union shops.
  • Working within department budget and proficient in Xeeva / CMS systems
  • Ability to analyse problems and provide solutions using 1 x 1 methodology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA Requirements
  • Support plant's commitment to both internal QMS and external customer quality.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Tool Room Supervisor will create a self-sufficient Tool Room doing CNC improves & Engineering changes in house.
  • Tool Room Supervisor will supervise toolmakers and apprentices
  • Create Plans and schedules for all tool room jobs as per timeline breakdowns; Continuous Improvement.
  • Control all heat treated components from outside suppliers.
  • Tool Room Supervisor will schedule ordering of tooling components and supplies spare punches/Button and tools.
  • Assist Lead hands in troubleshooting die build problems.
  • Tool Room Supervisor will plan tool room equipment maintenance.
  • Assist in quoting, design, troubleshooting and development as required.
  • Staff and evaluate tool room employees.
  • Resolve issues with other managers such as press time, sign off, shared equipment etc.
  • Tool Room Supervisor will maintain CAD files and system as per company's standards.
  • Liaise with Production, Engineering & New Build Departments.
  • Tool Room Supervisor will create CNC surface files, when required.
  • Understand and Ability to learn Class A Stamping.
  • Record daily job numbers and hours on punch card.
  • Other duties as required or directed in order to accommodate the customer.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English
  • CAD/CAM Knowledge
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerance skills

Working Conditions:

  • 20% office, 80% plant floor (PPE required)
  • Comply, ensure and enforce Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) particularly the "Duties of Workers" as stated in section 28.

  • Comply, ensure and enforce Workplace hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)

  • Be aware of moving lift trucks at all times.  
  • All employees are prohibited from working under dies which are suspended from hoists, cranes or forklifts.

Effort/Physical Demands

  • Manual dexterity.
  • Ability to see small writing up close.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk distances throughout shift.

Health and Safety Responsibilities:

  • Complete and abide by Martinrea's Health and Safety policies, procedures and rules.
  • Tool Room Supervisor will ensure training and compliance of all company Health and Safety training and OSHA regulations
  • Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in the form of long sleeve shirts/pants, ear plugs and safety glasses and any additional PPE that may be required for a specific task. 
  • Hand and arm protective equipment is required when handling sheet metal
