Job Summary: Operate and Setup a variety of presses from 400 ton to 2000 ton, while ensuring quality and productivity standards are met. Complete all necessary documentation.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Must be able to read and write in English
  • Basic math skills and physics/mechanic
  • Forklift and Crane certification
  • Minimum 5-7 year experience in a press machine operation and set up
  • Experience with measuring equipment
  • Ability to follow standardized work instructions and problem solve technical issues
  • Capable of leading a small team; strong coordinating and organizing skills

Essential Functions:

Job Knowledge:

  • Continuously improve knowledge of all aspects of assigned work cells.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing thinking to optimize the work cell.
  • Actively participate in cross-training and job rotation, both within and outside of the department, as needed.
  • Abide by all Company polices including, but not limited to the following: Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human Resources policies, and the Martinrea Employee Handbook

Quality:

  • Ensure that only quality parts are passed on the next operation, notify area leader of any quality related problems immediately.
  • Complete all necessary documentation (production reports, quality alerts, etc.) correctly and in a timely manner. Ask for assistance as required.
  • Ensure First Off and Last Off procedures are being followed at all times.
  • Conduct in process quality fixture checks and populate quality inspection sheet as required

Productivity and Team Work:

  • Operate variety of equipment, manually produce parts or perform other duties according to specific job instructions.
  • Operate and set-up hand transfer and progressive die operation and/or perform other duties according to specific job instructions (i.e. coil replacement)
  • Perform set ups in a safe and timely manner (alter set-up to ensure press is in a safe condition for the operator (ex. No trip hazards, extra tools put away); create first off/last off
  • Problem solve automation problems as they arise (i.e. decoiler, feeder, die, etc)
  • Follow standardized work instructions and verbal directions to meet targeted production quotas independently and as part of a team.
  • Participate in lineside boards meetings and be involved with lineside boards' activities, such as 1x1 problem solving and continuous improvements.
  • Create Live Reporting labels when required.
  • Provide/pre-stage material for related processes in order to meet hourly production rates.
  • Ensure handling, storage, packaging, preservation and delivery of product so as to prevent damage, contamination and deterioration for all welding cells.
  • Escalate all quality and part shortage concerns to Lead Hand and Area Leader immediately.

Working Environment:

  • 95% work indoor on plant floor (PPE required), 5% outdoor

Health and Safety:

  • Responsible for performing all duties in a safe manner and reporting any safety hazards/incidents immediately to Lead Hand/Area Leader.
  • Ensure good housekeeping is maintained at all times.
  • Promote 5S for responsible work area.
  • Must work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, Company and plant rules, policies and procedures
  • Must use or wear Personal Protective Equipment and certain clothing as required by the Company
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation including Environmental Legislation, O. Reg 851 for Industrial Establishments, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (with emphasis on Section 28, (1) (a)-(d), (2) (a)-(c)).

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs
  • Must be able to work with push pull forces of 50 lbs or less
