Job Summary: This role provides leadership and direction to the HR department in regards to employee relations, training, health and safety, performance management etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Human Resources Management; HR designation is preferred
  • Strong communicator in the English language, both written and oral  
  • Minimum 5 - 8 years Human Resources generalist experience in manufacturing industry;
    • 2-3 years at manager level
  • Proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.) 
  • High level of time management and ability to lead a team 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of workplace legislation, Employment Standards Acts and Human Rights Code
  • Familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Regulations
  • Fair knowledge of payroll and benefits administration

  • Responsible for managing Human Resources roles; Health and Safety, Administrator and Reception, to ensure the appropriate training, coaching and discipline is given to ensure high performance of tasks to meet scheduled requirements
  • Responsible for the design, implementation, coordination and administration of policies and procedures related to all phases of human resources activities
  • Oversee Human Resources related functions:
    • Selection and recruitment of all personnel for assigned division
    • Champion all in-house HR related programs and associated activities,  ie, Perfect Attendance award, Employee Communications Committee, Christmas party, Summer picnic etc
    • Oversee all claims related to Workers' Compensation and Long Term Disability etc and to ensure proper documentations are in place and up-to-date
    • Oversee the return to work program to reduce potential high Workers' Compensation cost.  ie, provide assistance to the H&S Coordinator when required for the speedy and safe return of injured employees
    • Responsible for the administration of progressive rates and performance evaluation process for all hourly and salary employees on a timely manner
    • Ensure compliance of training records for all employees as per Quality and Environmental Systems requirements
    • Act as consultant to senior management and line management on company policies and procedures as well as interpretation and application of current legislations.
    • Actively involve and act as adjudicator to all department Managers and Supervisors on issues relating to progressive disciplines, performance standards, corrective actions etc.
      • Responsible to oversee and contribute to a humane work environment where fairness, equity and non discriminatory practices are the standard
      • Liaison with various governmental bodies and legal community in relation to the administration of Human Resources activities as required
      • Abide by all company polices including, but not limited to the following; Health and safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human resources policies, and Martinrea Employee Handbook

Working Conditions

  • Constant communication with employees, peers, and management
  • Overtime as required

Health and Safety Responsibilities

  • Must work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, Company Rules, Plant Rules, policies and procedures
  • Must use or wear equipment, protective devices or certain clothing as required by the company
